Below are just a few of the personal experiences that Jeremiah shares in his book, Creating a Culture for Change. These experiences are about some of his travels to serve others in need.
DARFUR
In January of 2008, Jeremiah had the life-changing opportunity to visit the Darfur refugee camps of Eastern Chad. Jeremiah traveled to Chad with the group, Stop Genocide Now, and continues to be an active member of their team. Throughout the book, Jeremiah’s shares his experience and insight from being with these amazing survivors of genocide. They have not only survived the unfathomable, but have been struggling for survival for over last five years as the violence continues. To find out more about Darfur, and on how you make a difference, please visit Stop Genocide Now.
GUATEMALA
In January of 2007, Jeremiah traveled to Guatemala with Daniel, a fellow coworker. Daniel had been working with an elementary school for several years and together, along with the other 70 associates in the organization, they were able to donate the additional funds needed to complete the school. During the trip the school principal told Jeremiah something that has stuck with him ever since. She said, “If it weren’t for this school, the young boys would be working in the fields, from the age five or six, and the young girls would be working with their moms.”
Jeremiah shares this experience in his book and the importance of providing education to children around the world.
THE CITY DUMP, GUATEMALA
During Jeremiah’s same trip to Guatemala he had a wonderful opportunity to meet the Mayor of Guatemala City and to see some of their ongoing work in the city. One experience, which Jeremiah declares to be one of his most profound experiences of his life, was touring the city and seeing a few of the city’s daycare facilities. These facilities were built to get children off the streets and into a classroom. One of the daycare centers was built right next to the city dump and was built as an effort to get the children out of the dumps (they worked in the dumps with their parents looking for any salable item). This picture is taken from the second floor of that daycare center.
Jeremiah shares his thoughts and feelings about this experience and how it has changed his life.
